Vero Beach is a well kept secret on the Treasure Coast of Florida, halfway between Cape Canaveral and Palm Beach Gardens. The city comprises a sectioin on the mainland and an upscale tourist/beach area on Hutchison / Orchid Island (connected to the mainland by two modern bridges over Indian River). It has all the amenities of a larger city without the frenzy. There are miles of pristine beaches on the ocean side of the island with miles of scenic driving and plenty of free parking. Indian River is part of the inland water route of East USA and is ideal for kayaing and boating.
There are lots of activities, entertainment, ample shopping, and small businesses. The small airport is home to Piper Aircraft manufacturing. Vero Beach also has many restaurants, churches, and excellent medical facilities. It is also culturally active.

First established in 1990 to save McKee Botanical Garden, IRLT protects the land that protects the Indian River Lagoon.
The Land Trust promotes the conservation of the Lagoon for the residents of Indian River County by preserving habitat, protecting scenic waterfront and providing access for the public. They own the property just north of Garden Grove and recently cleared it of invasive species. They recently purchased 90 acres across US Hwy 1 from Garden Grove; previously destined to be a storage facility.
